Dedication of the Lance R. LeFleur Coastal Alabama Field Office

2025-04-23

Today, Governor Kay Ivey dedicated the Alabama Department of Environmental Management’s (ADEM) Coastal Office and Mobile Field Office to ADEM Director Lance R. LeFleur, in honor of his outstanding leadership of the agency for 15 years. His tenure is not only the longest of any ADEM director in history, but also the longest tenure of any state environmental regulatory agency in the nation. The ADEM Coastal Office and Mobile Field office was designed and constructed under Director LeFleur’s leadership using RESTORE Spill Impact Component funding as well as state funding. This field office, with its approximately 14,500 square foot state of the art laboratory, will improve the department’s ability to manage the coastal and aquatic resources of south Alabama. This facility supports water quality, air quality, and biological analysis (fish sampling and analysis) as well as permitting functions related to restoration efforts in the region.
